I'm one of those classic borderline Millenial / Gen Z kids - even though there's no clear boundary, but you know what I mean. I remember dial up internet very vaguely, and I remember those old TV-looking Macs with the clear colourful backs - I think we had one in a classroom or something. But the first proper computer I remember using and having looked like this:
I knew how to use computers and the internet already, because I remember typing "Every Body Dance Now" into youtube, and that was the first ever music video I watched! It would stop every 10 seconds to buffer for about five minutes, and for some reason I thought that if I pressed my finger on the screen at the place where the video was stuck, it would magically start again. (It worked Sometimes.)
What a great first music video, because it replicated so many other iconic music videos! (Even though I obviously didn't know it at the time).
Some other first MVs that I watched:
^ I still love this one with a passion. I remember, even as young as age 8, wanting to be "Mary Jane keeping [St Jimmy] insane / snorting someone else's cocaine" (specifically, the girl at 3:45 - I still can't tell though, if it was an admiration or an infatuation).
