I'm so torn and in the best way possible. I love my combination of courses this semester - Contemporary Australian Writing, Italian 2, Intro to Astrophysics, and most exciting, a chem research project - I'm working with Dr Megan O'Mara, a PhD student, and Dr Eijelkamp, a biochemst at UWA who is doing the experimental work: we're using molecular dynamic software to simulate the lipid bilayer of Acinetobacter baumannii to find ways to combat its antibacterial resistance: it's an ESKAPE pathogen. I don't know how I landed such a cool opportunity, but I'm not complaining. If all goes well, I'll be a primary author on a journal article!! I want to read as many articles as I can, to be able to contribute as much as possible. I had to teach myself Linux the other day, and I'm already learning some coding in python.
And yet, at the same time, I want to write, be an artist, be a fashion icon, a cultural commentator, a culture creator.
This is Sylvia's whole fig tree metaphor, I suppose, but much more positive. Weirdly, after the massive depressive episode last month, in which I very, very nearly died (I get closer and closer to Doing It every time), I feel energetic, happy, productive. The past couple of days have not been hard to get through. I cleaned my room yesterday, properly unpacked all of my things, even vaccuumed - and we all know how the noise upsets me). I feel goof. It's weird. I started a new art account yesterday, @saintaquilia - an homage to St Jimmy.
Surely this can't be the results of the bipolar meds I started two weeks ago (on top of the SSRIs)?
