update from this place of stasis

Ohhhh my gooooood, I am  SO sick of studying astrophysics. It's my last and only exam this semester (all my other assignments and presentations and stuff are long gone), and I still have three. more. days. until my exam.

You may, understandably, be assuming that this means I have studied everything I can three times over, done all the practise questions, and have nothing left to study. You would be wrong. I still have three lectures to take notes for before I'm done with all the course content (admittedly, this is like my third time watching the lectures), and I've not even looked at past papers. But I am so over it. I don't care, Brian Schmidt and Paul Frances, about acoustic peaks!! (This is in fact the next lecture waiting for me, threateningly.) I'm sure it's all very interesting if explained well, but it is not and I am left to stick the pieces together in my structured notes - and frankly, I've run out of glue.

It's gotten to the point where I can't even be bothered to write important stuff down in my notes, because I've just run out of fucks/energy. Which is bad, because incomplete notes are bad. Hence why I am taking this little break to bitch - I'm hoping I get some zest for life back, bringing renwed resolve for note-taking. However, I find this unlikely.

What I'm worried is going to happen is that I get to the exam hall and I'm so burnt out and bored that I literally cannot be bothered to answer the questions properly. Which, I think you'll agree, is not the way to pass an exam.

I'm also dreading getting to the exam hall itself. This course has been entirely  online, which has saved me the depression of going to lectures three times a week and seeing a see of nerdy semi-autistic whit boy faces and the greasy hair often attached. But that means I'm going to have to confront it all for the first time in the ANU Sport Hall, and I know I'm going to feel inadequate and inferior, and like I'm not gonna do as well as all of them and their aspie passion for supernovae or whatever. So I can't wait for that!

As we speak, Lachie just finished his last exam and is now free. I am so jealous. I want to have nothing to do all day but read. In fact, don't tell anyone, but I've already started on my summer reading list:

  • The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
  • Just Kids by Patti Smith
  • Greek to Me by Mary Norris
  • Second Half First by Drusilla Modjeska
  • The Marmalade Files by Steve Lewis
  • Avalanche by Julia Leigh
  • My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh
  • How To Be Both by Ali Smith
  • Cosmo Cosmolino by Helen Garner
with Greek to Me by Mary Norris. It's good, and a breath of fucking non-astrophysical fresh air, for fuck's sake.

What else is new? Sorry I haven't been posting on here much. I have been #vlogging, though. Here's one I uploaded today:

Here are some pictures, too, of what I've been doing:

Skye likes to wiggle under my arm when I'm in bed so I'm hugging her like a teddy bear. Speaking of which....

Laura handed in her honour's thesis!!

Went to Coogee Beach with Laura

I'm also bored as hell of all my music. I can't wait for November 15, when the new Peep album comes out, because there will be songs on it I've never properly heard before. But before that, November 9 needs to come...

Adios for now I guess. I promise I'll update more soon. Back to motherfucking astrophysics...
